Validity and what to carry

The UK Foreign Office says tourist e-visas are valid for up to 3 months 4. The portal does not state the stay length in the pages we checked 1.

On arrival, carry a passport valid for at least 6 months, the e-Visa printout, your travel plans and hotel bookings 1. Holding an e-Visa does not guarantee entry 2.

Other options

Some travellers can buy a visa on arrival instead. The UK Foreign Office says airport kiosks sell one for US$30 in cash, valid for up to 30 days 4. From 1 August 2026 Cairo International Airport sells digital visas on arrival by card for US$36, including a US$6 digital service fee 4.

British visitors arriving by air at Sharm El-Sheikh and staying under 15 days in certain Sinai resorts get a free entry stamp 4.

At Taba, a US$20 border tax gives an entry stamp for up to 15 days. Travelling further within Sinai, including to Sharm El-Sheikh, means a US$120 border tax for up to 15 days 4.

Extensions and overstays

You can apply for a visa extension at the Egyptian Passport and Immigration Offices 4. If you try to leave on an expired visa, you may face difficulties, including a fine if the visa expired more than 14 days earlier 4.

Avoid agents and copy sites

The UK Foreign Office says you do not need to buy a visa from an agent at the airport, and that agents often charge more than US$30 4. Apply online only at https://visa2egypt.gov.eg, the Ministry of Interior's portal 1.
